Summertime is here! From hitting the trails to going for a bike or trolley ride, there are a lot of cool things to do during the summertime in The Woodlands! Use our guide as a “summer bucket list” starter, and most of these suggestions are free or almost free!
Hop on a MoBike Explore more than 200 miles of bike trails around The Woodlands on a MoBike! As the first in Texas to launch the program, The Woodlands is very proud of the dockless bike share program. The custom designed solar powered bikes are equipped with GPS which makes them easy to locate by using the MoBike smartphone app. There are often several parked in front of Town Green Park. You pay $1 per half hour for rental and helmets are not provided. When you are done using the bike, simply park it, lock it and leave it available for the next rider.
Hike or Bike at the George Mitchell Nature Preserve A 1,700 acre nature preserve nestled in the back of The Woodlands, The George Mitchell Nature Preserve includes a 2 mile hiking loop and 3 miles of bike trails. This wooded and naturally forested area provides an escape from our commercial area and offers a shaded hiking experience which connects to almost 12,000 acres of forest known as the Spring Creek Greenway. With all of the hiking and biking to be done, you are sure to work up an appetite! After a day in the forest, head over to Creekside Village Green and fill up at Fielding’s Local Kitchen + Bar or Levure Bakery.
Paddle Lake Woodlands Explore The Woodlands by water with your own personal kayak! At the Riva Row Boat House, located near Town Green Park, you can rent kayaks or paddle boards and take to the water for a fun outdoor adventure. Children 9 years and younger must ride a kayak with someone older than 16 years of age. Life jackets are provided with the boat rental, and are even available for your four-legged friends. Riva Row is open year-round with summer hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are closed on Wednesdays.
Cool Off at a Splashpad It’s a family favorite for a quick cool off during the hot summer months. The Woodlands is home to several splash pads. You can find splash pads near Waterway Square, at the south end of Market Street and a Creekside Village Green. At night, the fountains in Market Street and Waterway Square are illuminated with various colors, which makes for a spectacular sight! There are also 14 pools and aquatic facilities located throughout The Woodlands. Eight of the pools have spray grounds built right into them. Investigate the Storybook Maze 2099 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands 77380 Visit the children’s literary labyrinth with life-sized Aesop’s fables characters. The maze is located in the four-acre area at Town Green park along the banks of The Woodlands Waterway near the South Montgomery County Library. It features a beautiful maze garden with various book sculptures and benches along the way. There is also a children’s amphitheater nearby to use for group outings.
Lounge on the Lazy River at The Woodlands Resort Take a dip and go for a poolside experience at the Forest Oasis Lazy River and Waterpark or a nighttime Movie Under The Stars, The Woodlands Resort is a dream vacation for couples, families and friends. Sit Back and Relax on The Woodlands Waterway Trolley Kids love the trolley and it’s a great reason to explore several areas of The Woodlands without worrying about parking. A perfectly planned route allows visitors the option to ride daily on a vintage style trolley. This free transit system runs through our main destinations and can accommodate up to 35 passengers at a time. Hop on for a self-guided tour of The Woodlands commercial district or ride over to Hughes Landing for dinner. With the new Ride Systems app, you can track estimated arrival times and trolley locations making getting back to your hotel a breeze! Ride The Carousel at The Woodlands Mall The cool Woodlands Mall is always a great option when it comes to family fun during the hot summer months. Besides a fun play area for kids, there is a huge life-sized carousel near the food court area. With plenty of animals and other creatures to sit on and ride or just relax on the bench seating for a fun go around. Near the main bathrooms there is a hallway lined with beautiful artwork designed by local artists, so be sure to check it out!
