The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is teaming up with Market Street to host a lively Summer Send-Off on Tuesday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Families are invited to join the fun as The Pavilion welcomes Open Dance Project, an ensemble-driven dance theater company known for creating world-class interactive performances throughout Houston.
This free community event will feature a high-energy dance workshop called Staging Stories Live—an interactive dance theater performance built on audience suggestions. Kids become part of the creative process as dancers bring their ideas to life on stage. The focus of the event includes creativity and collaboration, performers craft choreography, dialogue and music on the spot, and introducing young audiences to dance, theater, and music concepts in a fun and engaging way.
“We’re excited to help families close out summer with a celebration that blends movement, music, and creativity,” Ashley Gravois, Assistant Director of Arts Outreach at The Pavilion. “It’s a fun and engaging way to connect with the arts before the school year begins.”
In addition to the improv dance session, guests can explore The Pavilion’s Instrument Petting Zoo, where children can touch and play real instruments up close. Volunteers will be on hand to help young guests create their very own dance ribbon wand and other crafts to take home.
