Visit The Woodlands has recently been honored with two Gold MarCom awards for projects that assisted visitors during their time in The Woodlands as well as Crisis Communication Response earlier this year.

Gold MarCom Awards


Copa Rayados International is a soccer tournament held annually in The Woodlands during Thanksgiving week. In 2020, Visit The Woodlands created a dedicated Microsite for the Copa Tournament participants, coaches, and spectators to use as a planning tool before ahead of the Tournament and while they were in The Woodlands. The site included soccer field locations, group dining options, transportation, Show Your Badge discounts and COVID-19 safety precautions. Overall, the microsite had over 2,200 page views leading up to and during the tournament, and it was one of the top-visited pages on Visit The Woodlands' website during the month of November 2020.


In February 2021, Winter Storm Uri severely impacted the Houston region as well as the entire state of Texas. Due to unprecedented freezing weather and the electrical grid failing, Visit The Woodlands acted as a critical response team. Visit The Woodlands staff continued to update the website with hotel availability and restaurant openings as well as posting updates to social media, providing visitors and locals with information on where they could find a safe place to stay and a warm meal. There were 2,807 pageviews during the weather occurrence and it was the top third visited webpage on the site in February 2021. Visit The Woodlands received a total net audience growth of 450 across social outlets for the month of February, up 46.1% from January. Hotel Booking Referrals were up 117% from January. Between staff members losing power because of electrical grid failures and burst pipes due to the freezing weather conditions, the team's communication and ability to work together allowed for seamless transitions and changing of tasks when necessary. Communicating behind the scenes as a group was key to the success in providing critical communications during Winter Storm Uri and keeping our emergency communications up-to-date.

MarCom’s Gold Award is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm. Approximately 24% were Gold winners.
