Grandma's Purse

"Grandma's Purse" by Dixie Friend Gay was installed at Waterway Square in 2009. This art piece doubles as a splash pad during the warmer months and is open free of charge from mid-March to mid-October. The expansive sculpture is located in Waterway Square and is made of terrazzo and bronze cast in glass. It features a bronze purse, which is almost lifelike, and is inspired by all of the treasure's you can find in grandma's purse. The contents of grandma's forgotten purse spill out onto the ground, creating a beautiful mosaic floor for the splash pad. Anything you could imagine is woven into the mosaic: a cell phone, keys, pennies, scissors, crayons, an MP3 player, a camera, action figures, dolls, toy cars and more.
