W.G. Jones State Forest, spanning 1,700 acres near Conroe, The Woodlands, and Montgomery County, is one of the nation’s largest managed urban forests and a hub for conservation, research, and education. Home to the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, the forest is recognized by the American Bird Conservancy as a top birding area in North America. Visitors can explore diverse ecosystems, learn about sustainable forestry practices, and participate in environmental education programs. Managed by the Texas A&M Forest Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife, the forest showcases habitat restoration, reforestation, and innovative forest management techniques. At the same time, its demonstration areas highlight conservation practices like prescribed burning and ecological restoration. With approximately 80,000 annual visitors, W.G.
