Kim Lowe has been a trailblazer of the hospitality industry for more than 30 years. Since joining The Woodlands community in 2007, she has spearheaded the development of two luxury hotels and ushered a third to new heights. Now Complex Director of Sales for The Westin, Embassy Suites, and The Woodlands Resort, she is at the forefront of the strategic planning and execution of all sales and services initiatives for these three hotels. She carries this same energy into her role as a Director on the Visit The Woodlands Board, helping to maintain a thriving community and ensuring long-term business growth.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BREAK INTO HOSPITALITY SALES?

Hospitality drew me in, as I find joy in interacting with people trying to build upon an idea or create a memory. On the meetings side, there’s something deeply satisfying in the knowledge that our team contributed to a breakthrough strategy or set the scene for organizations to align differing opinions on an important vision. On the catering side, our team creates moments that people carry The Westin at The Woodlands with them for years. It’s humbling to become a part of those memories.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START IN THE INDUSTRY?

Selling country club golf memberships was the start of my hospitality career. Later, in the hotel industry, I met generous leaders who mentored me for years—like Chris Kenney, who modeled integrity and shared industry insights, and Scott Spann, who offered opportunities to hone those skills in an elevated role. I’m fortunate to work for a company like CoralTree Hospitality, genuinely invested in its employees’ happiness.

HOW HAS YOUR CAREER PROGRESSED SINCE THEN?

The journey from Sales Manager to Director of Sales for Group and Catering and Business Travel across our hotels has been both challenging and rewarding. What makes it special are my colleagues. Bill Liedholm and Johnny Phan, the general managers of our three properties, are amazing leaders. Everyone will agree that our group, catering, and conference services team is the heartbeat of our success—equal parts hardworking and fun-loving.

HOW DOES YOUR JOB WITH THE HOTELS INTERSECT WITH YOUR ROLE AS A DIRECTOR FOR VISIT THE WOODLANDS?

I think that the board benefits from listening to hoteliers’ boots-on-the-ground experience. Visit The Woodlands has an amazing team, and the board must support that team by approaching tourism from a high-level perspective. Hoteliers can offer a more intimate lens on everyday operations. We hear directly from visitors about their needs and preferences, and this insight can help the board to better channel their support for local hospitality partners.

WHAT ARE THE TOP REASONS WHY MEETING PLANNERS HOST THEIR EVENTS IN THE WOODLANDS?

We host well over 1,500 meetings and events across our three hotels every year, and there are so many reasons why our guests love The Woodlands. Some are drawn to our thriving business scene and proximity to two major airports. Others enjoy the walkability, amenities, and natural beauty. But above all, you won’t find a more eager group of people to host your events.

Decorative brick columns support the first tier. The lights in the lobby and under the awning glow with soft golden light. The surrounding area is lush with neatly trimmed foliage.
